My Best Experience Off the Beaten Path in Germany
I came across this interesting bar in Frankfurt ( I believe, as I discovered it in the 1970s and I think it was in Frankfurt, or Hamburg, or Heidelberg;but definitely in Germany !
Anyway I was curious as to whether this place still existed. What I remember is I believe the name was Le Catacomba ( catacomb). You entered in what could be described as a ticket kiosk and took a spiral staircase down to one of two levels. The first was long and full of cushions where you could relax. The next lower level was a large bar, and dance floor. The bartenders were African guys in these very white dashikis and the music was LOUD.
What I Liked About It
Ambiance, music and the architecture was of a catacomb; half circle design throughout. Something like a quansot hut. A great rockin place, great sound system, the subtle and not too subtle smell of hashish, beautiful people and expensive drinks
Advice
- If anyone remembers this place give me a message as to what happened to it.
- My greatest fear was that the place would catch fire and the hundred or so patrons would not be able to get out fast enough.
- I don't recall seeing any other entry/exit than that circular staircase.
