Cologne's Best Hostels

Find a Hostel in Cologne

By , About.com Guide

Hostels in Cologne are not only for backpackers and gone are the days of dingy community kitchens. Cologne hostels are a great way to travel on a budget without having to sacrifice comfort - all of Cologne's hostels listed below are clean and modern and feature many of the amenities a hotel would, including flat screen TVs, free Wifi, single rooms, and private bathrooms.

1. Pathpoint Hostel

Set in a former church, the brand-new Pathpoint Hostel opened in 2010 with a truly unique atmosphere; the century-old building has been renovated and the rooms, guest kitchen, and common areas are bright, very clean, and modern. There is also a little garden where guests can barbeque. Pathpoint Cologne offers dormitories that sleep 8, 6, 4, or 2 people, and all rooms are equipped with a bathroom and lockers. The location of the hostel make it a perfect starting point to explore the city: You can walk to Cologne’s Central train station (5 minutes) as well as to Cologne’s top sights and attractions (5 minutes to the Cologne Cathedral).

 Dorms start at 14 Euros

2. Meininger Hostel Cologne

You can find Meininger Hostels all over Germany, and they always deliver when it comes to value, design, and cleanliness.  In Cologne, the 2-starred Meininger Hostel features modern and spacious dorms, female dorms, and private rooms spread over 6 floors. Whatever you choose, every room is equipped with a bathroom, hair dryer, and flat screen TV. Set in Cologne’s student quarter, you’ll be surrounded by plenty of bars, restaurants and cafés, and Cologne’s city center and main shopping area are a 15 minute walk away.

Dorms start at 19 Euros, single rooms at 108 Euro

3. Station Hostel Backpackers

Station Hostel Backpackers is ideally located around the corner of Cologne’s Central train station and the Cologne Cathedral. Guests can choose between dorms, double rooms and single rooms with private bathrooms. The staff is happy to tell you what’s on in Cologne and supplies you with free maps and city guides. Unlike many other hostels, this one has fixed room rates – whether Cologne celebrates carnival or hosts a big trade show, the Station Hostel Backpacker prices remain the same.

Dorms start at 17 Euros, single rooms at 32 Euros

4. 404 Hostel

The 404 Hostel is a homey and cozy little hostel in a residential neighborhood of Cologne. The area is quiet and safe; there are supermarkets, eateries, and a metro stop close by and it’s a 10-minute subway ride into Cologne’s city center. The 404 Hostel, which is situated in a residential building from 1900, offers dorms, double and single rooms as well as a fully equipped kitchen. Guests rave about the hostel’s very personal atmosphere and its friendly staff.
