Review of the Castle Hotel Colmberg

You can already see it from afar: The Castle Hotel Colmberg stands majestic on a mountain, overlooking the Franconia region; it is a destination on both the Castle Road and Romantic Road, two of the best scenic drives in Germany.

The castle's ancient stone towers, which were constructed 1000 years ago, greet you like something out of a story book. You drive up a wooded hillside, through a gate from the 16th century to reach the inner courtyard, surrounded by fortified walls.

The hotel offers modern rooms, but be sure to ask for one of the historic rooms with four poster beds, centuries-old paintings, antique furniture, and wooden ceilings.
No elevator is proof of the castle's authenticity; if you have problems walking upstairs, book a room on the hotel's ground floor.

Castle Colmberg has it all, so go ahead and live like a king or queen: Have a cup of coffee in the courtyard, feast on meals fresh from the hunt in the rustic restaurant, visit the chapel and the overgrown royal stables, and take a stroll through the large deer reserve adjacent to the castle.

The hotel's idyllic location is a great starting point for day trips: Hiking trails are closeby, and the medieval towns of Dinkelsbühl and Rothenburg ob der Tauber are only a 15 minute car ride away.
