Guide Review - The Rhine in Flames - Fantastic Fireworks Spectacles in Germany

What could be more romantic than the Rhine in Flames? A night under the stars on the Rhine river, music, wine, great food and fantastic fireworks displays make the Rhine in Flames an ideal event. Whether you go in the spring or in the fall, the Rhine in flames is entrancing. Not only is the Rhine in Flames put on in some of the most romantic towns along the Rhine, but it includes festivals, boat parades, and fireworks. I cannot recommend it highly enough, as long as you don't mind crowds.

Imagine this, you are sitting beneath the famed Loreley, lighted boats are slowly cruising down the Rhine, you have a glass of wine and sitting on the shore or perhaps in a boat. One caveat, it is too romantic to do alone.

The first event, between Linz and Bonn, is followed the next day by festivals in all the towns along the way so it is not simply a one night affair. More than 2000 Bengal lights (bright blue fireworks) and 60 decorated ships make this an incredible event - try to get a reservation on one of the ships so you can be part of the whole thing.

In July, head to Ruedesheim, a town I particularly love as it is tiny and the main street alon the Rhine is a few blocks long with lots of tiny wine cellars and sidewalk cafes. There is a boat parade as well as fireworks displays that happen between Ruedesheim and Bingen.

In August, head to Koblenz, visit the Deutsche Eck and the castle and watch the biggest boat parade of the summer - there are eight fireworks displays between Spay and Koblenz. This is one of the biggest Rhine in Flames events, accompanied by festivals along the way.

In September, choose between the Night of a Thousand Fires or Loreley night, stay in St. Goar for either one or visit Oberwesel or St Goarshausen. Each of these towns is lovely and the atmosphere is magical. I can hardly wait for September.
