St. Patrick's Day in Germany - The Munich St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Largest St. Patrick's Parade in Continental Europe

From About.com

While many Germans will celebrate St. Patrick's day, Munich is the only German city that holds an official parade. Held the Sunday before St. Patrick's day (March 11, 2007 this year), there are a host of parties and events as well as the actual parade. The parade starts at Muencher Freiheit and goes to Odeonplatz along Leopold- and Ludwigstrasse.

Munich St. Patrick's Day Parade Schedule

  • 11:30 am Meeting time for official groups participating
  • 12:00 am Parade Start Route Münchner Freiheit to Odeonsplatz along Leopold- and Ludwigstraße
  • ca. 01:00 pm Arrival at Odeonsplatz
  • ca. 01:00 pm Blessing of the Shamrock; Speeches; Stage programme with music and dance
Munich has a good-sized Irish population and the St. Patrick's Day parade is one of the largest in Continental Europe, if not the largest. Following the 2 km parade, there is an open-air party with live music and dance.

If you can't make it to Munich for the parade but happen to be in Germany, check out some of the Irish Pubs in Germany.
