Hamburg Harbour Birthday Festival

The annual Hamburg Harbour Birthday Festival is one of the biggest harbour festivals in the world, with tall ships, tugboats, ballet, parachute jumpers, hot air balloon rides and food, drink and arts and craft stalls around town. Naturally, there are fireworks and thousands of people so get there early or make a reservation in one of the Harbour restaurants or on one of the boats to really see everything close up.

Bodensee Festival Friedrichshafen- International Bodensee Festival

In May, head to Lake Constance (the Bodensee) and Friedrichshafen for the International Bodensee Festival which includes concerts, literary events, exhibitions and theatre performances. This year's theme is "Märchen, Mythen und Legenden", or "Fairytales, Myths and Legends".

Nordseewoche- North Sea Week

The biggest sailing event in the North Sea is Nordseewoche (North Sea Week) on the island of Helgoland. Starting in Hamburg and consisting of over 150 yachts, this is a delight for sailors and lovers of sailing from around the world. There is a huge festival on the island and you can wander around, enjoy the boats and sample local cuisine.

Frankfurt Forest Folk Festival (Waeldchestag)

Since the 1700s, people have been celebrating the start of summer in the forest in Niederrad, a Frankfurt suburb. The festival includes food, entertainment and rides in a lovely forest setting.
