June in Germany - June's Summer FestivalsSummer Festivals You Won't Want To Miss in GermanyGermany's June summer festivals include a wide variety of unique events that like the Tuebingen Boat races, the Eltville Sekt and Beidemeier Festival and the ancient Lamboyfest in Hanau. There are fireworks displays like the Japanese Fireworks Night in Dusseldorf and the Garden displays and fireworks at the Rosen-und Licthernfest in Frankfurt's botanical gardens.
Japanese Fireworks NightDüsseldorf, Germany2 June 2007 Visit downtown Düsseldorf for the Japanese fireworks night, a fantastic pyrotechnic display over the Rhine and the city of Düsseldorf. Stocherkahnrennen - Tübingen Boat RacesTübingen, Germany7 June 2007 The Tübingen boat races are a wild time on the Neckar river, anyone can participate that has an eight man rowing boat and boats are decorated with various themes and people dress up as fantasy characters, vikings, gladiators, and warriors of all types. The race is all in good fun as racers try to tip each others boats and do whatever it takes to win. It is a riot to watch - the goal is to reach the end of the race with your boat in one piece and your crew still aboard. The winners get beer and the losers have to traditionally down a half liter of cod liver oil (maybe to coat the stomach for all the beer they are going to drink later). LamboyfestHanau, Germany8-10 June 2007 The Lamboyfest in the 700 year old town of Hanau originated in 1636 to celebrate the lifting of a siege. Now it is a huge folk festival held in old town offering a historic market, lots of entertainment, and a full cultural program. Plenty of food, lots of people, great entertainment and the picturesque setting combine to make this festival a short way from Frankfurt a delight. Frankfurt Rosen-und Lichterfest (Rose and Light Festival)Frankfurt, Germany7-10 June 2007 Frankfurt's botanical gardens, the Palmengarten is filled with roses and lanterns and candles during this rather romantic festival. There is plenty of entertainment, even for the kids and great fireworks displays. Bücherbummel - Book Stroll On The KöDüsseldorf, Germany 14-17 June 2007 The Düsseldorf Königsallee (the Kö) hosts and open-air book and cultural festival along Königsallee, in the center of the city. The festival incoudes stalls from booksellers and entertainment. This is a beautiful place to walk and if you speak German, the festival is even better as much of the entertainment and most of the books are German.Altonale FestivalHamburg, Germany1-17 June 2007 The annual Altonale Festival provides a wide array of street theatre, performances, music, arts and crafts stands and food stands for the annual Altonale festival. Check out the Spassparade (fun parade) for a whimsical and wild afternoon. Aachener KultursommerAachen, Germany29 June - 2 July 2007 The Aachen Kultursommer is a great time to visit Aachen. Make sure you take in one of the spas and enjoy the festivities at the festival in this town that was founded by Charlemagne. Sekt and Biedermeier Festival Eltville, Germany 28 June - 2 July 2007 Try out some of the local Sekt (sparkling wine) in the lovely town of Eltville or simply wander around and enjoy the foods of the region. The theme is the 1700s and costumed people wander around and man the booths. |
