Fun Events to Attend in March in Germany

March signals the start of spring and Germany has several events to help visitors overcome the winter blues. The first funfairs of the year open in Hamburg and Frankfurt and travelers can visit the ITE Show in Berlin and fitness fans can attend the Lifetime Messe in Frankfurt. Literature lovers should take a trip to Leipzig for the book fair and the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau is great for music and art and architecture fans. While March may be a bit dreary weather-wise, Germany can sometimes surprise you and even if it is a bit gloomy, you can fortify yourself with a little Starkbier at the Munich Strong Beer Weeks.

Handel Festival

The Badenese State Theatre is the venue for Karlsruhe's annual Handel Festival. In addition to concerts of Handel's music and that of his contemporaries there are productions and performances of his operas and oratorios, as well as innovative and experimental treatments of classical pieces.

Strong Beer Weeks

Every year, during Lent, Munich celebrates Strong Beer Weeks, so from Ash Wednesday to Easter, you might want to head to Munich for Munich's special Starkbier served in the Paulanerkeller and other breweries around town. Starkbier is just that - extremely strong beer that was originally brewed by Monks to get them through the Lent season.
