Springtime in Germany can be a great time to visit. You still get a lot of rain and it can still be quite brisk in the north but you can catch some lovely sunny days and the spring blossoms across Germany are incredible. In the north it is still a little brisk and the mountain towns are dealing with melting snows and run-off so always be prepared for rainy weather - or slush if you are in the hills.
- Visit the Rhine and Mosel valleys as the new grapevines and trees blossom.
- Sit outside in one of the many outdoor cafes that open once there are a few days of sunshine.
- Visit the botanical gardens and parks.
- Eat Asparagus - from May to June Germany goes crazy for asparagus (Spargal) and almost every restaurant features asparagus as a main dish or a side dish. Try it with ham, with butter sauce, hollandaise sauce or smoked pork.
