Great German Discount Airfares

Discount air travel in, to and from Germany can be a great way to see Europe and there are offerings on no-frills airlines from most major German cities.

Getting to Germany, you can fly with any one of the international airlines or with Lufthansa, which has an excellent reputation for punctuality. Major US airlines with flights to Germany include US Air, United Airlines, Delta and Continental. British Airways also offers some great deals and is known for excellent service.

The best bet when flying from North America to Germany, though, may well be to use a service like Kayak that gives you the lowest fares available for several different airlines by searching through the offers from all the top travel booking sites.

RyanAir

Ryanair has cheap (sometimes free except for taxes) fares into Germany from several major cities across Europe. Based out of Ireland, there are great connections to London and Dublin. I have flown Ryanair from Hamburg to London for one euro and the number of cities they have on their list of destinations continues to grow.

Ryanair flies into the following German Airports :

  • Hamburg
  • Bremen
  • Düsseldorf
  • Berlin
  • Leipzig
  • Frankfurt
  • Karlsruhe
  • Freidrichshafen.

    EasyJet

EasyJet has flights throughout Europe as well and you can easily connect from one city to another - as with the other discount airlines your destination cities are limited. Flights are as low as a few pounds into many destinations from the UK and Ireland, although not the major airports.

EasyJet flies into the following German Airports:

  • Hamburg
  • Bremen
  • Cologne/Bonn
  • Berlin
  • Munich

    Germanwings

Germanwings advertises flights from zero euros up so if you want to visit other European cities, the UK or Ireland, you can easily add a leg onto your trip. The Germanwings Web site will give you the best options from and to your destination cities.

Germanwings flies into the following German Airports:

  • Berlin
  • Cologne/Bonn
  • Dresden
  • Düsseldorf
  • Leipzig
  • Hamburg
  • Stuttgart

    DBA

DBA offers business class service at discount prices primarily within Germany with flights to Paris, Moscow, Rome and Greece from most cities. You can essentially fly with DBA for less then the cost of a train ticket so it is a great option when traveling between cities like Munich and Hamburg where the travel time by car or train could take you as much as a day.

DBA flies into the following German Airports:

    • Berlin
    • Cologne/Bonn
    • Dresden
    • Düsseldorf
    • Leipzig
    • Hamburg
    • Stuttgart
    • Hannover
    • Nuremburg
    • Bremen
    • Munich
    • Karlsruhe
    • Münster

    Hapag Lloyd Express

Hapag Lloyd Express flies within Germany and Europe and advertises flights for as little as one cent between the UK and Germany. There are several locations throughout Germany that this low cost carrier services advertising that you can "Fly for the Price of a Taxi". Hapag Lloyd also offers discount flights between Toronto, Miami, Las Vegas and Germany at very reasonable rates.

Hapag Lloyd Express flies into the following German Airports :

    • Berlin
    • Cologne/Bonn
    • Dresden
    • Düsseldorf
    • Leipzig
    • Hamburg
    • Stuttgart
    • Hannover
    • Nuremburg
    • Bremen
    • Munich
    • Karlsruhe
    • Münster
    • Frankfurt
    • Sylt

    Wizzair

If you want to see some of East Europe, Wizzair may be your best bet with low fares direct from German cities to selected cities in Eastern Europe.

Wizzair flies into the following German Airports :

    • Hamburg
    • Frankfurt
    • Dortmund
    • Cologne
Flying from North America over to Germany you can get cheap fares on discount airlines including LTU which often offer package or fly and drive deals for less than the cost of a round-trip ticket on a major airline.

Almost all international airlines fly into Germany so you only need to choose your destination to determine what the best price will be. You will find the most direct flights into Frankfurt which is a major European airport hub but from certain cities you can also fly directly into most major German cities although the choices will be limited.

Certainly, using one of the low cost carriers in Europe can give you the chance to explore more of Europe and Germany and if your travel plans include the United Kingdom, you will definitely want to check out some of the fares from the UK into Germany.

You can rent a car in Germany if you are interested in touring and seeing the country on your own; you can choose to take the train; or if you are traveling within Europe and want to see cities that are far apart, definitely don't discount the discount airlines.
