Dating back to 1867, Schottenhamel is the oldest beer tent at Oktoberfest - and some say, the most important one. At 12 p.m. sharp on Oktoberfest opening day, the Mayor of Munich will kick off the festival by tapping the first keg of beer at the Schottenhamel tent. After the traditional "O`zapft is!" ("It is tapped!") and a 12-gun salute, all other Oktoberfest beer halls are allowed to tap their beer kegs, and the festival gets into full swing...With 10.000 seats, Schottenhamel is the largest tent at Oktoberfest and the place to party; the Spaten Oktoberfest beer, which is brewed in spring, is served here.
