The Best Bars in Berlin

Hitting the Town in Berlin

By

Berlin is the capital of German nightlife and famous for its eclectic bar and club scene. Most bars are open until the wee hours, and they are a perfect spot for having a nightcap.

Check out some of Berlin’s best bars here; these spots offer more than just great cocktails – from panoramic views, and quirky design, to “pay-what you-wish”, and outdoor lounging, here are the best Berlin bars to have a great night out.

1. Victoria Bar

The sleek and loungy Victoria Bar, close to Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz, does not only offer top-notch cocktails, but also an award winning interior design with dark wood paneling, leather couches, and changing art exhibits. Your cocktail will be mixed by Stefan Weber, voted bartender of the year by Gault-Millau 2001. Weber teaches you in the art of mixiology in one of his cocktail classes, each one dedicated to a particular spirit. Happy Hour, 6.30 - 9.30 p.m.

2. Greenwich

You might have to look for the Greenwich Bar a little bit (there is no sign at the door and the window blinds are always closed), but once you pass Frank the doorman, you'll be a part of Berlin Mitte's hippest in crowd. Sink into one of the lime green leather sofas and sip your Watermelon Man (Vodka with fresh watermelon) illuminated by fish tanks which are lining the walls. It gets crowded, loud, and fun after 1 a.m.

3. Weinerei

This wine bar in Prenzlauerberg operates on the honor system - for 1 Euro, you get a glass, which you can fill, and fill, and fill, just help yourself from a table crowded with bottles. There is also a buffet with home-cooked, organic food. Before you leave, put as many Euros in a glass jar as you think your night out was worth. With its eclectic mix of second hand furniture and an unpretentious crowd, the Weinerei has the warmth of a living room filled with friends.

4. Club der Visionaere

Welcome to the best place in Berlin to beat the summer heat: Have a cold beer while dipping your toes into the river Spree at the Club der Visionaere, a boathouse turned bar right on the water in Kreuzberg. Hang out in colorful deck chairs or just sit down on the wooden planks of the deck, which are shaded by drooping trees. The beer is cheap, the guests easy-going, and DJs spin some of Berlin's finest electronic music on the weekends.

5. Riva Bar

Named after 70s soccer star Luigi Riva, this bar lives underneath the elevated S-Bahn train tracks in Berlin Mitte; its curved and colorful painted ceiling gives the place an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Take a seat at the oval-shaped bar in the center of the room or take it easy in one of the leather benches along the wall. In summer, you can enjoy your cocktail al fresco on the back terrace.

6. Green Door

Ring the bell and the green door will open into one of Berlin's most relaxing cocktail bars; Located close to lively Winterfeldplatz in the neighborhood of Schoeneberg, Green Door celebrates a 70s retro style with a long bar, checkered wall paper, and kitschy memorabilia. The cocktail list is impressively long, and you shouldn’t leave without trying the "Green Door Cocktail”, champagne with lemon, sugar, and mint. Happy hour: 6 – 9 p.m.
