German Language Schools to Brush up Your Deutsch

1. Goethe Institute

The Goethe Institute is the cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, promoting German language and culture in over 90 countries around the globe. In Germany, you find Goethe Institutes in 13 different cities. Besides German language classes, the institute also hosts cultural events.

The Goethe language exams are internationally recognized as part of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (CEF). Online classes and specialized exams in business German or German for university are also available.

2. German Summer Universities

Many German universities offer German extension classes, mostly during the summer break; the website of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) gives you a great overview of all German universities and their German language programs.

3. Volkshochschule

You find Volkshochschulen in almost every German city; comparable to a community college, these schools provide non-credit courses for adults. Volkshochschulen are mostly the cheapest option when it comes to language classes.

The campus of the GLS Language School is located in the heart of Berlin; it is the only language school in Germany with on site accommodation all year round, including a restaurant, garden, bookstore, and a little movie theater. GLS also organizes summer camps in Berlin and Munich and assists you in finding internships in Germany.

The Deutsch Institute offers German classes for adults and kids in Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg; besides regular German language classes, you can choose between business German, an internship program, teacher training, and summer camps.
