A Happy Kindergartner

First day of school. You want it to be special and fun. In Germany, they have the Schultüte-a giant paper cone filled with goodies. Everything from snacks to pencils and even gameboys are packed into a Schultüte for the first day of school. Kind of like a Christmas stocking.

The first day of school is special here in Germany, children are escorted to school by their parents with brand new back packs and a giant cone filled with gifts. Parents leave their children at the school and the kiddies are more than happy to say good-bye (no tears when you have all the surprises in your Schultüte to explore).

It may not have caught on in other countries yet, but, heh, what's not to like? The kids are happy to go to school, you can say that pencils are presents and you can let the teachers deal with the sugar rush from the candies you put in the cone.

OK, so it may not fly well with the teachers or the NEA, then make your own party - let your little one know that his or her first day home from school they have their special present waiting. I love the idea and I am sure your kindergartner will love it as well.
