Atmosphere
The inside of Prater Restaurant is dark and rustic and resembles a traditional German beer hall. You can sit at the heavy wooden tables or at the bar that runs the length of the restaurant. While the atmosphere is cozy in the evening and in the wintertime, you might prefer the airy terrace in the summer. It is shaded by a red and white-striped marquee and looks out onto the bustling beer garden.
Food and Drinks
The food in the Prater Restaurant is hearty and draws from a traditional German menu. Start with a homebrewed beer. Prater Pilsner is a favorite, and for the beer aficionado, try their dark and full-bodied Prater Lager Schwarz.
If you love meat, you'll find plenty of great meals on the menu. Try the Wiener Schnitzel, a thin and tender veal cutlet with a golden brown breadcrumb crust. The Schnitzel is served with buttery parsley potatoes and a cucumber salad in a dreamy dill dressing.
For the vegetarian at the table, try the eggs in mustard sauce; you'll be surprised how tasty this dish is.
Look out for seasonal specialties such as Spargel, asparagus (May-July), or Pfifferlinge, chanterelles (July-August), small mushrooms that grow in the forests around Berlin. The chanterelles with bread dumplings are delicious.
In winter (November December), the restaurant is famous for its Gaensebraten, fresh roast goose, with warm red and green cabbage sides.
There is always room for dessert, and Apfelstrudel is a classic. Its light and flaky crust wraps around warm apples, raisins, and nuts, and is complimented with a creamy vanilla sauce.
