Halloween in Germany is not generally celebrated with children going door to door for candy but there are plenty of activities around Germany if you want to celebrate Halloween. German amusement parks, particularly, pull out the stops for Halloween. While you will probably find something fun to do for Halloween in almost any city in Germany, here are a few highlights.

PUMPKIN FESTIVAL IN DORMAGEN

Between Dusseldorf and Cologne, Pumpkin Island in Dormagen is a fun destination for pumpkin lovers. People come from all over Germany to the Pumpkin festival here where visitors can check out jack-o-lanterns of all types. Children can play in the cornfield labyrinth. There is a pirate ship made of straw and pumpkins and you can carve your own pumpkin if you like. Combine some time at Pumpkin Island with a stroll through the medieval town of Dormagen and a visit to Kloster Knechtsteden, a Romanesque complex built in 1130. Stop in at the Klosterhof, just outside the monastery, where you can have a Knechtsteder Schwarze beer brewed on the grounds.

There is plenty of other entertainment and several rides at this amusement park which is the largest in eastern Germany. Combine it with a trip to the Leipzig International Short and Animated Films Festival.

HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL IN EUROPA PARK

Europa Park puts on a great Halloween festival frtom October 27-November 4. 120,000 pumpkins decorate the grounds and there is a Halloween parade followed by light-lazer fireworks. There will be parties around the grounds on Halloween night.
