The Statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels

Cross the street adjacent to the Town Hall, called „Schlossplatz“, and you can see two historic gentlemen - the statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

You are now standing in what used to be the former communist East Berlin. Just behind the two statues you can see the remains of the former East German government (GDR): The ruins of the Palace of the Republic, which is currently being demolished.

Walk into that direction and you will be on the main path of your walk that will take you straight ahead to the Brandenburg Gate: The boulevard „Unter den Linden“ („under the linden trees“).

From here on, just walk straight ahead - you can also check the blue guideposts that will tell you the distance to your next point of interest.
