Berlin and Leipzig are only 118 miles apart, which makes both cities great day trip destinations. Here are the best ways to get from Berlin to Leipzig (and vice versa) by plane, train, car, or bus.

Berlin to Leipzig by Plane

Getting from Berlin to Leipzig by plane is not recommended; there are no direct flights between Berlin and Leipzig, and tickets are rather expensive. A cheaper and faster option is rail travel or going by car.

Berlin to Leipzig by Train

Going by train is a great way to get from Berlin to Leipzig (and vice versa). Trains depart every hour from Berlin and if you opt for the fast ICE train, you’ll be in Leipzig in about 70 minutes. Tickets usually cost about $55, but if you book early enough and check out the website of the German Railway (in English), you can often find special deals.

Berlin to Leipzig by Car

Another good option to get from Berlin to Leipzig is by car. If you follow the Autobahn A 10 and then continue onto the A 9/E 51 (signs for München/Leipzig), you’ll be in Leipzig in about 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Berlin to Leipzig by Bus

There are not many buses between Berlin and Leipzig; Berlin Linien Bus is one of the few companies, which offers daily trips from Berlin to Leipzig’s airport, but not into the center of the city. Tickets are around $15 and the journey takes about 2 hours.
