In September 2011, I took a road trip through Rhineland Palatinate, one of the premier wine regions in Germany; on my 4-day itinerary: vineyards and wine tasting along the German Wine Road, castles, medieval towns, and of course, the mother of all German rivers, the Rhine.
I started my journey in the little town of Edesheim along the German Wine Road, where I spend the night at Schlosshotel Edesheim. The 4-star hotel is housed in a former castle, which dates back to 756; located in the middle of a small park, the setting is serene: From the window of my suite, I can see a pond and the Gewürztraminer vineyards which surround the hotel. My room, aglow in warm Mediterranean colors, is furnished with sturdy antiques; shiny knight's armors are displayed in the hallways, and a gourmet restaurant is on the first floor. A great combination of historic, cozy, and peaceful.
