Before you visit this year's Oktoberfest in Munich, how about exploring the beer festival's rich history?  After all Oktoberfest commemorates its 200th anniversary in 2010!

If you want to know more about the festival's royal origin, which was first held to celebrate the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese, head to the City Museum of Munich. Its special  exhibition "The Oktoberfest 1810-2010" pays tribute to the festival's past 200 years and showcases traditional costumes, historical carousels, and rarely shown paintings, photos, and films.
