I’m from Saxony and I have visited the christmas market in Dresden several times and I have to say it’s one of the most boring ones in Saxony ( as I have seen quite a lot of them in my area ).its not only boring (especially the arrangement at the market place) but also really crowded. Yes it’s the oldest one in Germany but definitely not the nicest one. If your in Saxony go to Leipzig or even Chemnitz which I personally love because it is “full of nooks and crannies” (i hope this expression fits :) ) but you can also find little but nice markets in small towns in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) for example in Annaberg-Buchholz.

And don’t forget to take home at least one of the Räuchermännchen ( smoking man ) or Schwibbogen. You can get the originals at christmas markets ( some supermarkets or stores are selling cheap ones that are not handmade or from the region).

So these are just some recommendations from a local person :)

Enjoy your stay at the German Christmas Markets!

Drink lots of Glühwein and eat a Bratwurst :)
