Weimar - The Heart of German Culture

Wednesday April 15, 2009

If you are interested in arts and culture, Weimar should definitely be on your list of cities to see in Germany.

From Goethe and Schiller, to Bach and Wagner, the creme de la creme of Germany's intelligentsia lived and worked in Weimar, which is located in Eastern Germany. You can walk in their footsteps, literally: Almost all Weimar attractions are in short walking distance from each other, which makes this city a great and fun place to expore.

Weimar is also famous for the Bauhaus art school; the city was the cradle of the Bauhaus movement, which created a revolution in art, design, and architecture between 1913 and 1933.
You can visit the Weimar Bauhaus Museum, the original Bauhaus University (and sneak a peek in the original office of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius), as well as various buildings in the distinctive Bauhaus style.
