There are many great hidden places in Germany – most likely you won't find them in your guide book, and that makes them even more fun to discover!

One of the best cemeteries in Berlin, the resting place of German playwright Bertolt Brecht, is a place that probably won't show up in any top-ten-must-see lists of Berlin. Still I think it is one of the most interesting places in Berlin to visit.
Read more about it in our guide to the Cemetery of Dorotheenstadt.

My favorite hidden treasure would be underground – the old Elbtunnel in Hamburg. Starting with the vertigo-inducing way down at St. Pauli Landungsbrücken and including the long walk through a tiled tunnel to the south bank of the Elbe (on which side the ascent is far less spectacular).

My favourite hidden treasure is a lake close to Berlin called Lipnitzsee. It is a 30 minute drive by car, or a 45 minute trip by train to the little town of Wandlitz. You have to walk the last meters through a forest to reach it. The lake is surrounded by lush trees, the water is clear and beautiful (no motorboats allowed), and there is an island in the middle of the lake you can swim to.

Walking the Mosel from Koblenz to Trier or riding a bike. It is so pretty. I really think the Mosel is much prettier then the Rhine and all its castles.
